“People were always getting ready for tomorrow. I didn't believe in that. Tomorrow wasn't getting ready for them. It didn't even know they were there.”
The Road is a book that not all will enjoy. The simplistic syntax and style makes the read very unique, but many readers see it as so easy that it is boring and childish. Although, I believe the writing is in this style due to the setting in which life is survival, not living, and the thoughts of the characters are supposed to be short and choppy. McCarthy applied it greatly, and made the style depict the conditions. I enjoyed the overall story due to this, the short and to the point dialogue that still has meaning, and the great story the book tells and its message. It is one of the few classics that have an easily understandable style (despite its date) due to the context of the book.
(The book also has a movie directly based off of the plot)
